Children's Aid Society-WHEN DO WE NEED THEM TO STEP IN?

I'm sure many of you have heard of the Children's Aid Society. Many people are misinformed about the meaning of this organization. Many people think the workers in this society are cruel, inconsiderate and selfish. others hear SOME things and decide that they must be nice people who are only looking out for children. I have been in the system for years and I know what it's all about. One big question about Children's Aid is: "is it a good idea?" There are times when childrens aid steps in for the wrong reasons or for no good reasons at all. The parent or/and child should be willing to accept the supprt instead of being forced into it. If Children's Aid "invites" themselves into a family's life, it's looked at as more of an invasion. Some parents decide to put their children in the care of the society, because they feel they are unable to care for them. in other situations, children or youth may notice they are not being treated or cared for well enough. These children or youth may bring their concerns to the society's attention or tell an adult and the process can be started. Children's Aid may be great for children and youth who are being abused in anyway or form, have parents who are addicted to drugs, are frequently getting kicked out, never communicate with their parents and are not having their basic needs met. It should be considered for children in desperate need of help that their parents can't provide for them. children's Aid will help them with school, work, college, housing and counceling. There are many rules and prosedures that come along with being a child in care, but it's worth it for kids who have nothing better at home. For children who'd rather live with a bunch of other indivisuals their age, rather than living with alcohilic, abusive parents who treat them like they're invisible. Some children would rather have a cerfew to return home, instead of returning to a home that they may get kicked out of a few times a week. Basically, if a child is in danger or bad health at home, it may be a good choice. But there is more than one side to the facts about Children's Aid Society. brace yourself for the rest...
