Stranded during the TTC strike
The TTC strike seemed very unncessary and inconvenient. People have enough problems with the TTC during the times they are not on strike. People had to resort to expensive cab rides or spend hours trying to call a friend to get picked up, because all they had on them was bus fair. I was stranded at work for hours. I was outside in the cold wearing a t-shirt. It got so bad that I had to make several calls to several people, until my phone died.I then wasted a bunch of loonies to make calls o the payphone, because noone had change. A young ccouple let me use their cell and over heard my conversation. They drove me to the police station. the police said I lived too far and that they weren't a taxi servic. They said i could stay in the station, but if I started falling asleep, they'd have to make me stay outside. they made atleast 15 calls to my friends and family members and even some cab companies. for abour 2 hours we had no luca nd it was looking lik i would have to stay outside until the striike was over. I wasn't about to hitch a ride in an unfamiliar area hours away from home. It was bad enough that it took 3-4 hours bu yrt, ttc and subay to get home, but the strike made it worse. My mom only had 40 bucks in her account and we asked a cab company for a flat rate of fourty dollars. Once they arrived, they said that was too low and they thought I was going to pay more. I was waiting in the police station again, cold and hungry. The cops called the security at mu workplace and i was driven back there by a cop. The security called a cab and it costed almost 80 dollars. my work place wasn't too happy and I was sure no matter what happened to me in the future, they weren't going to be able to come through for me. It took less than 2 hours to get home a lot of money. All because the ttc went on strike. |
